According to the Pakistan Super League 2020, the 18th game contested between Quetta Gladiators and Peshawar Zalmi. Peshawar Zalmi won their must-win match against QG in a cut short 15 overs game per side. In the Quetta Gladiators vs Peshawar Zalmi 18th Match PSL 2020, Zalmi posted 170 runs target in limited-overs. A great partnership between Haider Ali and Shoaib Malik for 54 runs mainly supported Zalmi in posting huge goals. Imam ul Haq replaced Tom Banton and played his first game of the Pakistan Super League 2020 season. The game played at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium as 18th match of the tournament.
Shoaib Malik rapid fifty with 54 runs off 27 balls took Zalmi to the massive total. While opening the innings for Zalmi in the rain-interrupted match scored with the pace of eleven and a half runs per over. Haider Ali played his excellent innings of 39 runs off 24 balls with four-fours and two maximums. Shoaib Malik and Haider Ali paired for 54 runs off 30 balls as Haider dismissed earlier. After the dismissal of Haider for the 5th wicket, Liam Livingstone joined Malik. Both went aggressive with a great plan taking 41 runs off 18 balls taking them to 170 runs in 15 overs.
Naseem Shah bowled two overs brilliantly who conceded only six runs in his two overs. Quetta Gladiators used six bowlers who considered more than eleven runs per over. Sohail Khan smashed 38 runs in his three overs who managed a single breakthrough in his bowling spell. Tymal Mills conceded 33 runs in his three overs and remained unsuccessful in his bowling spell. Ben Cutting smashed 15 runs/per over in his two overs bowling spell. Mohammad Hasnain took four wickets in his three overs and conceded 34 runs.
Zalmi Post 171 in 15 Overs
In response to 171 runs target, Quetta Gladiators ended up their 15 over the game in 140/7. Jason Roy and Shane Watson paired for 45/1 in 4.4 overs before the dismissal of Watson. Roy smashed 45 runs off 26 balls with his five boundaries and two maximums to his innings. Except for Roy, not a single batsman from Gladiators went to twenties. The required run-rate wasn’t maintained by Gladiators as it requested over 12 right from the beginning of the innings. Ahmed Shahzad who played 17 balls and only contributed ten runs to Gladiators innings.
Ben Cutting, who wrapped up a few games for Gladiators previously couldn’t control his nerves. The required run-rate rose to 15 per over at a certain point of time and Cutting went back to the pavilion. Ben smashed 17 runs off seven deliveries he faced and couldn’t middle the off-stump ball of Wahab Riaz and caught. Mohammad Nawaz scored 18 runs by facing seven deliveries but maintaining 16 runs run rate isn’t a piece of cake especially for tail-enders. Wahab Riaz picked up three wickets in his three overs bowling spell. Gladiators failed in the run-chase ended up with 140/7 in 15 overs.
