According to the Pakistan Super League 2020 season five, the 3rd match played between Multan Sultans and Lahore Qalandars. In the opening game for both teams, Multan Sultans marked their first victory by chasing down the small total of 138 in 20 overs. Shan Masood and Imran Tahir did well with the bat and ball and secured the first victory for their team. Multan beat Lahore Qalandars by five wickets and chased the target with 23 balls spare to the innings. The Lahore Qalandars vs Multan Sultans 3rd Match PSL 2020, the 1st game at Gaddafi Stadium Lahore.
Despite having a great partnership between Chris Lynn and Fakhar Zaman with 59 runs in just 5.2 overs, Qalandars finished the innings earlier. Qalandars lost four wickets just after the departure of Chris Lynn with three overs, and it became probably difficult for them to capitalize. Qalandars came on the field with an unbalanced squad, especially ignoring specialist spinner. That became the main reason Qalandars started their PSL 5 journey with five wickets crushing loss.
Multan Sultans with a great combination of the squad, including specialist spinners, pace bowlers, all-rounders, and specialist bats made their unbeaten start of season five. Imran Tahir’s four overs bowling spell squeezed Qalandars as he conceded only 21 runs while grabbing two wickets. Shan Masood played a brilliant knock of 38 runs for 29 balls and focused on not losing the wickets. Not a big innings by any Sultans top-order batting line and partnership still they managed to get earlier.
Lynn and Fakhar Piled Up
From the Lahore Qalandars top-order batting line Fakhar Zaman and Chris Lynn went to play a big part in the powerplay. Irrespective of taking advantage of the settled situation by both opening batsmen, the Qalandars started losing wickets. It was quite desperate for fans to see when Qalandars collapsed from 59 for 1 in 5.2 overs. LQ scored only 78 runs in the last fourteen overs after losing their opening pair as the rest of the batting line failed to take advantage of settled grounds.
Multan Sultans came with the sophisticated spin bowling attack with Imran Tahir, Shahid Afridi, and Moeen Ali. All three got wickets with their spin duo of these bowlers of the limited-overs cricket. Imran Tahir individual innings taking up two wickets and bowled the most economical bowling spell of the game. Multan pace bowling attack got another experienced pair with Mohammad Irfan and Sohail Tanveer. Both did excellent bowling in death overs by taking wickets with max dot balls.
Multan Struggled a Bit
Multan feels pretty uncomfortable in chasing down the total while defending any target exceptionally competitive they gain confidence. Shaheen bowled brilliantly uprooting James Vince with the best delivery said by commentators “delivery of the day.” After losing Vince wicket, Rilee Rossouw took responsibility on his shoulders and took the game away from Qalandars. He played a very sensible inning by scoring 32 runs off 28 balls and saving wickets on the other end.
Shaheen Shah Afridi expected to provide a cameo with his destructive bowling spell. He bowled one of the perfect yorkers and uprooted two stumps of James Vince and marked as a ball of the day. Rilee is looking good in a wholly guided way to take things with a steady approach and spend maximum time on the crease. Shahid Afridi 21 runs inning for 12 balls, including two fours and single maximum, helped Sultans in chasing the total.
