Finally, Lahore Qalandars marked their first victory of PSL 2020 after losing three consecutive games. LQ has been on the bottom of Pakistan Super League points table in all four seasons so far. In the Lahore Qalandars vs Quetta Gladiators 16th Match PSL 2020, Ben Dunk 93 runs of 43 balls took Qalandars to their highest total ever. Quetta Gladiators lost early, especially Jason Roy, Shane Watson and Azam Khan first summoned victory for LQ. Qalandars beat Quetta by 37 runs and defended the highest total of their history 209 in 20 overs.
The highest partnership of Lahore Qalandars batting line 155 runs between Ben Dunk and Samit Patel took them to 209 terms. Actually what happened to Gladiators hasn’t been witnessed in the past, especially against defending champs. A brilliant knock by Ben Dunk and Samit Patel who paired for 155 runs off 73 balls. Qalandars smashed 115 runs in the last seven overs of the innings taking a big inning by both settled batsmen on crease. Ben Dunk broke the record of most number of maximums in single innings by hitting 10 in his exceptional innings.
Qalandars from 50/3 in 7 overs to 209
Quetta won the toss against Qalandars at Gaddafi Stadium Lahore taking advantage of later due factor. LQ batting started in an old fashion they used to be as they were at 50/3 in 7 overs. Chris Lynn and Fakhar Zaman posted 36 runs in their opening partnership. Qalandars were 36/1 and later with the dismissal of Lynn, Mohammad Hafeez without contributing back to the pavilion. Pretty slower batting innings by Qalandars and at some time it was clear they may get 160+ by the maximum. Things got changed entirely when Dunk and Patel thought about charging the bowler.
Qalandars heavily depend on Fakhar and Lynn as they get a quick start and later batting line collapses. Today, at Gaddafi Stadium it didn’t happen as defending champion Gladiators received the highest ever runs by Qalandars. Ben Dunk 93 runs off 43 balls and Samit Patel 70 runs off 41 balls took things away from QG. Dunk smashed four consecutive sixes to Mohammad Nawaz and boosted the score unexpectedly. Nawaz conceded 44 runs in his four overs bowling spell. Naseem Shah conceded 48 runs in his four overs, the most expensive spell in PSL by a young pacer.
Salman Irshad 4 and Dilbar 2 Wickets did the Job
In the chase of 209 target Qalandars ended up their 20 overs with 172 all-out and fell short 37 runs. Jason Roy got bowled out by Samit Patel in his second over leaving QG to 28/1 in 3.2 overs. Shane Watson contributed 28 runs to Gladiators scorecard but not enough while chasing the massive total. Quetta kept on losing wickets on a regular interval as Ahsan Ali, Sarfaraz Ahmed, Azam Khan back to pavilion for 79/5 in 9.3 overs. Ben Cutting cameo 53 runs off 27 balls didn’t help to reach out the target. The required run-rate rose to 20 in the last three overs that became tough for tail-enders to manage by any means.
Salman Irshad bagged his best bowling figure taking four wickets especially removing Azam Khan and Ben Cutting. In the chase of massive total due to creeping runs with every dotted delivery Gladiators tried to find their way in maintaining the run rate. Salman Irshad conceded 30 runs with the economy of 7.50 recorded his best bowling figure in PSL. Dilbar Hussain took two wickets in his two overs bowling spell removing Shane Watson and Ahsan Ali, the top-order batsman. Seekkuge Parasana bowled three overs and conceded 28 runs and was unsuccessful in making breakthroughs.
