The 2017 Pakistan Super League was the second edition of the tournament, commonly known as HBL PSL 2017. The second season of the PSL contested between 5 teams Islamabad United, Quetta Gladiators, Peshawar Zalmi, Karachi Kings, and Lahore Qalandars. The PSL 2016 Winner, Islamabad United, and the second season at group stage 4th position of PSL 2017 point table. The tournament organized by the Pakistan Cricket Board and hosted by Dubai International Cricket Stadium and Sharjah Cricket Stadium.
Only the last few games of the tournament plate in Pakistan at Gaddafi Stadium Lahore. The 2017 Pakistan Super League season was the competitive season as compared to PSL 2016. Except for Lahore qalandars, all teams of the tournament one there four games of out of 8 at the group stage. Lahore Qalandars at the bottom of the PSL 2017 standing table by winning just three games in the first round. Peshawar Zalmi and Quetta Gladiators got 9 points while a single game tied between both teams.
Karachi Kings and Islamabad United won their 50% games and got eight ends with the negative net run rate. In the PSL Point Table 2017 schedule for the second season of the tournament, Zalmi and Gladiators played the qualifier to the playoffs. In the Pakistan Super League 2017, Peshawar Zalmi, the champions of PSL 2 opening batsman Kamran Akmal was the leading run-scorer with his 353.
While Karachi Kings striker bowler Sohail Khan was the leading wicket-taker of the tournament with 16. Kamran Akmal, Babar Azam, Dwayne Smith, Rilee Rossouw, and Ahmed Shehzad have been the leading run-scorers with 353, 291, 274, 255, and 242. Sohail Khan, Wahab Riaz, Rumman Raees, Mohammad Sami, and Usama Mir were the leading wicket-taker with 16, 15, 12, 12, and 12, respectively.
PSL 2017 Format
The PSL 2017 scheduled in Dubai, Sharjah, and few games at Lahore. The second season of the tournament played under the same round-robin format. Each placed twice with its opponent before their qualification to the PSL 2 Points Table playoffs. The winners of the game awarded two points while the loser team gets little variations in their Net Run Rate. If a game ties between both, sides than Super Over to decide the winners. The following were the criteria to rank higher at PSL 2017 points table.
- If equal, a higher number of wins
- Fewest defeats, If equal
- If still same, the results of the head to head meetings
- If even the same, the net run rate.
The rules for the super over match decider changed as compared to the first round if match tied the winner decided on these bases. Head to head team match-winning results, the team finishing higher in the league table progressing with Positive NRR.

Gladiators took 9 points and the positive NRR 0.166 and faced Zalmi in the qualifier playoff game. Karachi Kings won four games out of eight at the group stage; they took 8 points and fall to the 3rd position of PSL 2 standing table. Kings qualified for the playoffs and faced Islamabad United in the 1st eliminator of PSL 2017.
Islamabad United won four games out of 8 and was at the 4th position of the Pakistan Super League points table 2017. United were the defending champions of the 1st edition of the tournament and played eliminator against Kings. Lahore Qalandars won only three games and fell to the bottom of the PSL 2017 Points table and didn’t qualified for the PSL 2 playoffs.
