The 5th edition of the Pakistan Super League started with the opening match between Quetta Gladiators and Islamabad United at National Stadium Karachi. The fans have witnessed the incredible game of cricket between the top two teams of the tournament. Quetta Gladiators are the defending champions and played their first game against the most successful team of the competition. In the Quetta Gladiators vs Islamabad United 1st Match PSL 2020, Gladiators beat United by three wickets.
Both young players helped Gladiators in setting up their unbeaten start of the tournament. Azam Khan with the bat and Mohammad Husnain with the ball delivered the victorious performances. What a thrilling contest it has been as the top two sides of the HBL PSL T20 proved why they ruled the tournament so far. A great game of cricket and first total chased by Quetta with the loss of three wickets. Mohammad Husnain picked up four wickets in his four overs bowling spell.
While batting first at National Stadium Karachi, Islamabad United lost the first wicket on the very first ball of the HBL PSL 5 five seasons. Colin Munro played a straighter delivery back to bowler Mohammad Nawaz. Who didn’t make any mistake and caught him on the very first ball. David Malan and Luke Ronchi went for form a small partnership of 38 runs and Ronchi fell after United 38/2 in 3.5 overs. Ben Cutting picked three crucial wickets by dismissing Malan, Ingram and Shadab Khan.
Azam Khan Brilliant Innings
Azam Khan smacked 59 runs off 33 balls and took the game away from United in the first half of the innings. He appeared as a dangerous batsman and sent the top of the order by his skipper. Azam Khan smashed three sixes and five fours in his batting innings. He formed some meaningful partnerships especially with the skipper Sarfaraz Ahmed. Both created a company of 62 runs for 40 balls and became the reason for taking complete control over the game.
Somehow with three significant partnerships between the middle order batting line, Islamabad United scorecard propelled to 168 in 19.1 overs. For the first time, United got all-out in the opening game of the Pakistan Super League. While defending the total, the game went pretty tough for Gladiators before Azam Khan broke the shackles and took the pressure off and posted over the bowling side. In a quick-follow up, he went for a few boundaries including maximums in the first ten balls he faced.
Musa Brilliant Bowling Spell
Muhammad Musa bowled his brilliant bowling spell and got a dreamy start. Musa got wicket by removing Jason Roy, the destructive player in the side. Musa got him bowled on the second ball he faced, and United was well aware of the importance of the wickets. Ahmed Shahzad and Shane Watson got things under-control while chasing down the total. After the fall of Shahzad, the skipper joined Watson, and soon he also went back to the pavilion. A supportive innings by Mohammad Nawaz got Gladiators close enough to the total.
Mohammad Nawaz and Ben Cutting brilliant innings in the twenties secured the winning position for Gladiators. Finally, Gladiators managed to chase down the total in 19th overs, and they were at 171/7 in 18.3 overs. Mohammad Musa picked-up three wickets after conceding 30 runs in his four overs bowling spell. Gladiators made their successful start after beating Islamabad United at National Stadium.
